LinkedIn has become a go-to platform for hiring managers and job seekers. This post will explain 5 reasons for why you should use LinkedIn as a top strategy for job search.
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network. Most professionals and even college students have a basic LinkedIn profile and log in to the platform once in a while.
But are you actively using it in your online job search?
LinkedIn has solid statistics when it comes to job search and hiring. It is a go-to platform for hiring managers as well as other job seekers.
If LinkedIn is not a part of your strategy in your search for the best job in your dream company, you are missing the bus*.*
I recently did a poll on LinkedIn asking a simple question.
“Did you get a job or work because of LinkedIn?”
The results were staggering. Even though the number of respondents was small, there was a clear pattern.
Only 30% of people had already got a job because of LinkedIn.
The remaining 71% hadn’t got benefitted yet. It is likely that these respondents were not utilizing their LinkedIn profile effectively.
Some were completely ignorant about its utility for job search. 7% of the respondents even selected that option in the poll. 🤦♂️
Apart from this numerical survey, it has been my common observation too.
Most people in my network have a bland LinkedIn profile and that too not updated often.
Most of them are mere consumers of content and not contributors to the platform.
#jobopening related posts with thousands of ‘interested’ comments is a common occurrence. But, it is definitely not the best use of the platform for job search.
So I did some research on the latest statistics about LinkedIn as a platform for job seekers and recruiters. I was astonished.
Here are the 5 mind-blowing statistics about LinkedIn about job search.
LinkedIn has 756 million users and 57 million companies.
This number of users has been increasing ever since 2009!
It means that most professionals in your industry and most companies that you want to work for are already on LinkedIn.
So you should be able to search and connect with the decision-makers like VPs, HRs, GMs. The company pages also can give you valuable information about the industry, job openings and culture of the organization.
Approximately 40 million people search for jobs on LinkedIn every week.
Millions of LinkedIn users are already using LinkedIn as a job board. They are not just searching but getting successful as well.
Approximately, three people get hired every minute on LinkedIn.
Make sure you check how many minutes you spend on LinkedIn every day.
The number of remote job postings on LinkedIn increased by 6X during the pandemic.
Did you think it is getting more and more difficult to search for jobs since the pandemic? Then you are probably looking at the wrong place.
The global pandemic badly affected the world economy. But, most industries adapted and changed the way they operate that includes hiring.
LinkedIn has become the go-to site for most recruiters and hiring managers.
There are 15M+ open jobs on the LinkedIn Jobs portal.
The number of remote jobs on LinkedIn between March 2020 and December 2020 was six times bigger than before that period.
Job seekers with a comprehensive LinkedIn profile have a 71% higher chance of getting a job interview.
The overwhelming majority (87%) of recruiters find LinkedIn most effective when vetting candidates during the hiring process.
Did you spend all your time polishing only your resume?
Employers do look you up online. The LinkedIn profile usually comes in the top searchers when someone searches for your name on Google.
They look for signs of professional behaviour, personality fitting into their culture and a well-rounded profile.
What are you communicating to them through your LinkedIn profile?
The #1 way people discover a new job is through a referral.
Talent acquisition professionals know this fact very well that employee referrals are a top source of quality hires. They have been using this strategy to their full advantage.
How can you make yourself referable?
Your college friends and former colleagues should know enough about your qualifications, skills and job preferences to refer you. A continuous presence on LinkedIn can make that happen.
Conclusion
LinkedIn has to be the main strategy in your job search.
Even if you are not actively searching for a job right immediately, your optimised and updated LinkedIn profile will let exciting opportunities knock on your door.
What are you waiting for? Is your mind still searching for more excuses to procrastinate?
